Oliver Best Vintage Market Opens This Weekend
You can buy as many vintage clothes and vinyl records as your hipster heart desires this weekend at a new vintage market opening in Allston.
Dubbed Oliver Best Vintage Market, the collective will feature more than 20 vendors every Saturday, selling wares ranging from antiques and bicycles to video games and rock memorabilia. The market will take up two floors of POP Allston, a new pop-up community space in the neighborhood, with rotating vendors on the first floor, and anchored dealers on the basement level.
Oliver Best founder Justin Pomerleau is the owner of the shop Vivant Vintage in Allston and the creator of the Traveling Spectacular, a circus-style antique-selling group of vendors that sets up at places like the Brimfield Antique Fair.
“Seeing the impact that so many strong complementary brands can have together and the draw they can add to each other—we saw a really strong impact from that in our traveling shows,” Pomerleau says.
“I’m a really kind of showy guy in general, a lot of what I do is conceptual,” the MassArt graduate says. “When I take a whack at it, I give it a bit more charm and a little bit more magic than a straight-up store…With Oliver Best, I was searching out for a space to create that opportunity in Boston.”
Pomerleau’s shop, Vivant Vintage, will offer its time-honored goods at Oliver Best, as well as vendors including Spruce Vintage, Teenarena Records, High Energy Vintage, and Counter Couture MFG.
“We’re serious about what we do but we don’t take ourselves too seriously,” Pomerleau says about the collective.
Also in residence at POP Allston is CommonWheels Bicycle Co-Op, Boston Yoga Hub, artists-in-residence !ND!V!DUALS Collective, and Orchard Conservatory Skatepark, a free indoor skatepark founded by the owners of Orchard Skateshop. The creative co-op has created a Kickstarter campaign to keep POP Allston free of charge for the community.
“Get excited,” Pomerleau says. “It’s going to be a great thing for Allston. It’s going to be fun.”
Every Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., POP Allston, 89 Brighton Ave., Allston, oliverbestmarkets.com.
