Ellen DeGeneres Poked Fun at Steve Carell’s ‘Empty’ General Store in Marshfield

Concord native Steve Carell knows how hard the paper business can be, and apparently it’s just as hard to run a general store on the South Shore.

The Office star stopped by the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday, and the talk show host poked fun at a picture of Carell’s seemingly “empty” outlet located in Marshfield.

“No one’s there, it’s empty. I mean, it’s not doing well, Steve,” DeGeneres exclaimed. “Please go to his store!”

Carell explained that his sister-in-law runs the day-to-day operations at the historic Marshfield Hills General Store, which he bought around eight years ago. The outlet is filled with the typical folksy food items and products, from sweet potato butter and orange marmalade to mugs and t-shirts.

Despite being located on the west coast, Carell and his wife Nancy “still spends their summers in the quaint town” of Marshfield, according to the store’s website.

Hopefully when he is in the area, the Massachusetts native isn’t employing techniques he learned from the Michael Scott School of Business.
