Ringo Starr Brings Fine Art Show to Boston

It turns out that Ringo Starr is more than just a legendary drummer and musician. He’s also a pretty good artist.

The Beatles icon and recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee is coming to Boston this week to showcase some of his artwork at the Citi Wang Theatre. The exhibition is free to check out and will be on display from Wednesday, October 21 until Friday, October 23.

The original, hand signed pieces by Starr will be available for purchase during the event, with all proceeds going to his charity the Lotus Foundation. A few lucky customers will a get a chance to meet the former Beatle at a private reception as well.

In an interview with the Boston Globe, Starr opened up about the artistic endeavors he likes to pursue outside of music whenever he has the free time.

“I think I’ve got three parts of my brain,” Starr said. “I am a musician. Whatever else I do, I am a drummer; that’s my main joy and passion. And then I’ve got lots of time around that. So I’ve got the computer art, and I actually paint with brushes, and that’s just for myself, and I’m still taking photographs.”

One of the latest pieces that will be on display is called “Don’t Pass Me By,” which features a copy of Starr’s hand written lyrics for the song superimposed over an image of his face.

Another work that will be shown at the exhibit is a black and white peace-themed piece called “Bass Drum on Paper.”

There will also be a number of items that feature the “bandana man” image.

In addition to the art show, Starr will be playing a concert with his All-Starr Band at the Citi Wang Theatre on Friday night.

The Ringo Starr Fine Art Show will be on display from Wednesday, October 21, to Friday, October 23, at 270 Tremont St. Admission is free. Check out more information at citicenter.org.
