Paul Westerberg and Juliana Hatfield Form New Band, The I Don’t Cares
This post originally appeared on Vanyaland.
Back in a May feature in Paste magazine, Juliana Hatfield admitted to only ever writing three fan letters to other musicians: One to the band X, one to Elliott Smith, and the first, when she was a teenager, to Paul Westerberg.
Now Hatfield and the Replacements singer/guitarist have apparently formed a new group, called the I Don’t Cares, and just posted their first song, a jangly guitar-rock nugget called “1 / 2 2 P.” Listen to it via Spotify, or buy it on Amazon. Westerberg’s page also directs to a Nimbit profile.
We think the duo are singing about urination (is that “Your voice always makes me have to pee”?), but we might have to listen to it a few more times.
The song is to be included on the I Don’t Cares’ debut album, titled Wild Stab, apparently out on Dry Wood Music, the label referenced in the “1 / 2 2 P” Spotify credits. No release date has been set. More to come on the project once there’s more to report, but as of now looks like we just have this song. At the very least, it’s a victory for the lost art of fan-letter writing.
