Northeastern University to Open First International Campus in Toronto in 2016

Northeastern University announced Monday its plans to open its first international satellite campus north of the border in Toronto, Ontario.
The new campus, slated for a 2016 launch, will offer master’s degree programs in fields experiencing high demand in the region, including, project management, information assurance, and regulatory affairs for drugs, biologics, and medical devices. Northeastern is the first American university to be granted approval by the Ontatio government to offer multiple degree programs in the province without a local educational partner, the school says.
Northeastern says its still searching for a location in downtown Toronto for the campus, as it pores over a “strong list of candidates” for its first dean and CEO.
“No university can be confined to a single campus,” President Joseph E. Aoun said in a release. “Because of co-op, a Northeastern education has never been limited to the campus. This initiative is a more intentional approach to taking our educational model around the world. Toronto’s culture of innovation and increased demand for a highly skilled workforce make it an excellent regional partner for Northeastern. We are excited to build a bright future together.”
In the same release, Toronto Mayor John Tory said Northeastern’s arrival is “great news” for the city of 6 million. Northeastern has regional campuses in Charlotte, North Carolina, Seattle, and Silicon Valley, as well.
