Real Wedding: Dicken Chaplin & Torrey Taussig

Private Residence

THE STORY
Torrey Taussig and Dicken Chaplin’s romance has been all over the map. In 2008 Dicken, a native of Salisbury, England, journeyed across the pond to attend Williams College. It was there that he happened upon a political science and economics major named Torrey, who couldn’t help but notice his charming accent. “He was the cute British tennis player,” she says. “I wanted to meet him.” Not long after, the two went on their first date: a few rounds of tennis and dinner. “We hit it off. We couldn’t stop laughing,” Dicken says.“We knew from there that it was going to be the real deal.”
Four and a half years later, Torrey thought they were going out to dinner to celebrate finishing her thesis. But as the couple made their way to Pomodoro, in the North End, Dicken suggested that they stop off at the Boston Public Library—there was a map and globe exhibit he wanted to show her. As they walked into the library’s courtyard, Dicken popped the question. “He told me that he brought me to the map room because he wanted to travel the world with me and go on lots of adventures,” Torrey says.
The first of those adventures was their wedding day in Stowe, Vermont, where Torrey’s family has a home. After tying the knot at the Stowe Community Church, the couple and their guests—nearly 50 of which had traveled from the U.K.—made their way to Torrey’s family’s property, where they danced the night away amid views of Mount Mansfield and the Green Mountains. “It was very surreal,” Torrey says. “People from all over the world had come together for us on this beautiful day.”
THE DETAILS
When the newlyweds went to Torrey’s favorite barn to take photos, they were surprised to find a bottle of champagne, courtesy of their planner.
Wood tables and wildflower-filled mason jars created a rustic-elegant look.
The couple wrote guests’ names on vintage luggage tags festooned with old English keys.
Not only were the white lights around the tent beautiful, but they also prevented guests from stepping off the steep hill.
“I had always envisioned leaving the church in a beautiful old convertible on my wedding day,” says Dicken, who borrowed a 1978 Jaguar XJS.
