Gordon’s Fine Wines and Moody’s Delicatessen Outpost Open in Boston

There’s a new stop for fine wines, spirits, craft beer, and salami downtown. Gordon’s Fine Wines & Liquors has officially opened its first Boston location, and it brought another Waltham export with it: Moody’s Delicatessen.

Gordon’s, which has four other shops in Waltham, Watertown, and Newton, took over the Wine Cellar space on Temple Place. It softly opened on New Year’s Eve and sold its first grab-and-go Moody’s sandwiches yesterday, owner David Gordon said.

The 3,000-square foot shop carries more than 600 wines, including a wall of magnum bottles, and 48 samples pouring fresh from an Enomatic wine dispenser. There is also a wide selection of Scotches, rums, and other spirits; plus craft beer.

The shop offers delivery of any size order, and it’s building up its calendar of events for the year. A weekly Whisk(e)y Wednesday series kicks off tonight.

An 8-foot cooler displays chef Joshua Smith’s award-winning New England Charcuterie products, like sliced salami and wagyu beef snack sticks. There are mini cheese and charcuterie boards downtown workers can take back to their desks for lunch, plus Moody’s Delicatessen sandwiches delivered fresh daily; check out the five menu options below. Later this month, the shop will begin offering prosciutto and other meats sliced to order, Smith said.

“We’re also going to test drive a lot of our provisions that we sell here at Moody’s: Barbecue sauces, pulled pork, salsa, that kind of thing. As we perfect our packaging here, we’ll send it down there,” he said. “We’re real excited to use [Gordon’s] as our first foray into the Boston downtown scene. People have been asking for our products to be available in Boston, and now we are. It’s fun to team up with a wonderful family to collaborate in this beautiful space.”

Smith, who opened his flagship deli on Moody Street in 2013, has big plans for his New England Charcuterie operation. Construction is underway on a brand new, 10,000-square foot production facility in Waltham, which will help Smith grow his output tenfold once it goes online in April. The Gordon’s pop-up is a step toward expansion. “If we’re going to increase capacity, we have to increase availability as well,” Smith said previously.

Gordon’s Fine Wines in Boston is open daily from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon-6 p.m. on Sunday.
