Mark Ruffalo has been getting a lot of praise for his performance as Boston Globe reporter Mike Rezendes in Spotlight, but it turns out the actor did more than just get into the mind of his character.

While chatting about the film on Thursday’s episode of the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the late night host seemed impressed with Ruffalo for his ability to nail down the look of his character, from the clothes to his “Little Caesar’s” haircut. The actor revealed that Rezendes brought his actually work clothes to the set for the star to wear.

“Even down to the wardrobe, I thought it was very Boston,” Fallon told Ruffalo.

“That’s his wardrobe,” he replied. “He literally brought his wardrobe.”

Good thing the Avengers star didn’t Hulk out on set because then he’d owe Rezendes some new shirts and khakis.

All kidding aside, Fallon wasn’t just impressed with Ruffalo’s style in the movie, but he also commended the actor for being one of the first people to sign on to the film.

Ruffalo explained why he felt compelled to join the project.

“It’s important,” he said. “I read it and I thought this has to be made and it’s the time to make it with the new Pope. I felt like we had an opening to deal with some of these issues.”
