Watch Danny Wood’s Emotional Performance on Today

Plus: Take a trip down memory lane with a NKOTB flashback interview.

New Kids on the Block star Danny Wood managed to survive his appearance with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb on Wednesday’s episode of Today.

The boy band heartthrob stopped by the show to talk about his new solo album, Look at Me, and also gave the daytime hosts an emotional rendition of his new single “Hold On.” The track is a tribute to Wood’s mother, Betty, who passed away from breast cancer in 1999.

A portion of the proceeds from the album will go to Remember Betty, the musician’s charity organization which provides assistance to breast cancer patients and survivors.

Prior to his performance, which you can check out in the clip above, Wood talked about how much his mother has meant to his life.

“I think about her every day,” Wood said. “I see her in my children and it’s been a blessing to be able to do something positive with it.”

In addition to Wood’s moving performance, Today also posted a throwback interview between the NKOTB members and former host Bryant Gumbel.

Their late ’80s outfits may seem a bit ridiculous nowadays, but it’s crazy to think about all of the hysteria the band generated back in the day, which Gumbel compared to the hype surrounding the Beatles U.S. invasion.
