Is a Major Snowstorm on Deck for This Weekend?
Don’t look now, but today’s snow may be the mere opening act for a much bigger storm this weekend.
Seven-day forecasts project a major storm will hit the New England region between Saturday and Sunday, dropping upward of 24 inches of snow in the Greater Boston area. Don’t believe us? Here are the early projections:

We’re in the middle of our first really cold period of the season. It is highly likely that most of Massachusetts will stay below freezing all week, increasing the probability for accumulation in the event of a storm. According to WBZ, we have not had a long stretch of cold weather like this since February when we were pounded for six consecutive weeks.
The storm we’re waiting on is expected to make landfall in California on Tuesday before trekking south to the Gulf of Mexico where it is projected to strengthen into a monster storm. Accuweather is projecting the storm could include thunder and lightning in some areas along the coast.
It’s still a day away from landfall and things can change, but right now this appears to be the first threat of a major snowstorm for Boston this winter.
