Pitch Perfect fans, take note: The International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella’s (ICCA) Northeast Quarterfinals is this weekend. Held at Boston University, the region’s quarterfinals are a stepping stone to the finals and coveted International Championship competition. The top two groups will advance to the semifinals. The Boston University BosTones are one of nine a cappella groups from across the Northeast performing at this year’s event, and Melissa Primrose, a senior at BU and President of the BosTones, says the group has been rehearsing for more than three hours every day for the past few weeks. “It can be monotonous sometimes, working the same few songs, but everyone has been working so hard and we’re really excited for this weekend,” Primrose says.

SCREENING
Oscar-nominated Short Films at the ICA

Feeling lost in all the Oscar buzz? Keep up with the 2016 Oscars race by attending one of the ICA’s Oscar-nominated short film screenings. For the tenth consecutive year, the ICA will screen all of the Oscar-nominated shorts. This weekend the museum will feature screenings for this season’s live action and animated shorts. During the animation screening you can expect to see Pixar’s Sanjay’s Super Team, Oscar-winning director Richard William’s Prologue, and more. The live-action screening includes high-rated contenders such as Ave Maria, Day One, and Shok. COMEDY
Broad Appeal Comedy Night: Valentine’s Day Show

Make your Thursday night funnier with the Broad Appeal Comedy Night. Boston-based comedian Christa Weiss created the show as a way to showcase hilarious women comics. However, she didn’t want to make it a women-only show, so the monthly sets welcome a few male comedians, too. Headlining this weekend’s show is Emma Willmann, who was voted one of TimeOutNY’s Top 10 Funniest Women in NYC. “We’re excited to celebrate women,” says Weiss, who also hosts the show. “It will be a fun time for anybody who is single or dating. It’s a good time to get out and enjoy some comedy.”

Seu Jorge brings his talents to Boston this weekend with his one-night-only performance at the Berklee Performance Center. Hailing from Brazil, Jorge is a man of many talents, with both music and film credits. The singer started his career in 2002 after playing Knockout Ned in the Oscar-nominated film City of God. He also worked with Wes Anderson on The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, in which he appeared while also providing a series of David Bowie covers in Portuguese for the movie’s soundtrack. Additionally, Jorge performed with other Brazilian-based artists during the handover portion of the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony in which Rio was introduced as the host of the this year’s Games.

The Princess Bride at Brattle Theatre

If you’re stumped on what to do this Valentine’s Day weekend, then head over to the Brattle for a screening of the The Princess Bride. The indie theater will be featuring screenings of the much-loved 1987 comedic fantasy all weekend, with showtimes throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday. For those rare individuals who haven’t seen it, The Princess Bride follows the love story of Westley, a lowly farmboy, and Buttercup, the farmgirl who hates him, then loves him, then briefly hates him again. But perhaps more importantly, there are giants, swordfights, near escapes from death, and Billy Crystal under a truly ridiculous amount of age makeup. Special tickets will be sold for $25 per person that include reserved seating, unlimited popcorn, and soda, plus a Valentine’s Day treat.
