Not content to simply celebrate the impending opening of its new studio at the Ink Block, Turnstyle has announced it will merge with Vélo-City Studio.

The two locally founded companies are joining forces to stay abreast of the exploding indoor cycling scene in Boston, which has ballooned from one studio in 2011—Recycle—to a point of near-oversaturation now. As a result of the new pairing, Vélo-City’s Back Bay studio will take on the Turnstyle name.

To prepare for the merge, Turnstyle had begun adopting Vélo-City’s lower price point and music-themed rides over the past few months. Unlimited classes are $10 for a student’s first week, then $99 per month.

“This deal is primarily about setting both companies up for long-term growth, and the timing is just really convenient. We’ve been working for three years at our Back Bay studio, and we’re doing well—bursting at the seams, actually,” Vélo-City cofounder Tom Resor said in a statement. “Turnstyle has gone through a similar process of learning-and-building, and now both companies are ready to take it to the next level, together.”

The name change will take effect within a few months, and any classes purchased from Vélo-City will still be honored.
