Caitlyn Jenner Voices Support for Transgender Rights Bill in Massachusetts

Caitlyn Jenner has voiced her support for the Massachusetts bill that would provide anti-discrimination protection and equal access to public places for transgender people.

In a video posted by Attorney General Maura Healy on Thursday, the reality television star turned transgender rights advocate explained why she’s backing the bill.

“No one should be called names or denied service or attacked simply because they are transgender,” Jenner said. “That’s why this bill is so important because everyone should be welcome in the great state of Massachusetts.”

The former Olympic gold medalist later retweeted the video, adding that “it’s time to pass” the bill over on Beacon Hill.

While the bill has received a ton of support from Bay State Democrats including Healey, Senate President Stan Rosenberg, and even Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, it failed to pass during the close of last year’s legislative session. Meanwhile Republican Governor Charlie Baker has opposed similar legislation in the past, but hasn’t revealed his position on the current bill saying, “the devil is always in the details.”

Jenner isn’t the first high-profile star or politician Healy has enlisted for her social media campaign to get the transgender rights bill passed in Massachusetts.

Senator Elizabeth Warren and Henry Louis Gates also appeared in similar videos posted by the Attorney General this week.
