UN Ambassador Almost Picked Red Sox Tickets over Job with Barack Obama

In case you were wondering, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power is a serious member of Red Sox nation.

The Ambassador stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers on Monday night and revealed that she almost passed on a job offer from President Barack Obama in order to finally land season tickets to Fenway Park.

Power, a Harvard grad and former Boston Globe journalist, was asked in 2005 by then Senator Obama to work in his office as a foreign policy fellow. However, Power nearly turned down the offer when she found out that her dream of owning Red Sox season tickets was about to come true.

“After years of trying to get access to season tickets to the Red Sox, I had just been informed that I had a slice of a package,” Power said. “I had to make a choice. Do I fulfill my pledge to first term Senator Barack Obama and lose my tickets or do I stay true to my sports loyalties?”

Power ended up taking the offer from Obama, which led to her serving as a senior foreign policy adviser during the 2008 presidential campaign. She also was a member of the National Security Council staff before becoming the U.S. Ambassador to the UN.

“It seems I made the right choice,” Power told Meyers.
