Sweetgreen Is Making Its Menu Even Healthier
Sweetgreen has already gotten hordes of Bostonians hooked on salads. (Don’t believe us? Take a gander at the line snaking its way through the Prudential Center around noon.) Now, it’s working even harder to help you eat well.
The salad chain—which is in the midst of a giant Boston expansion—is already pretty darn healthy, preparing its food in-house and sourcing fruits and vegetables from local purveyors. But on Tuesday, Sweetgreen announced that it’s ditching Sriracha, bacon, and two of its popular salads, as part of its “Make America Healthy Again” campaign.
Sriracha got the boot because of its sugar content, and will be replaced with sugar-free dried chiles. As for bacon? “Simply put, you can’t be a healthy food business and serve bacon,” a release from the company says.
The Avocobbo and the Wild Child have been scrapped, replaced with “more nutritious and compelling” options. In their places are the OMG Omega Bowl (arugula, spinach, cucumbers, tomato, basil, avocado, roasted steelhead, nori furikake, and miso sesame ginger dressing) and the Hello Portobello (wild rice, shredded kale, beets, sprouts, basil, spicy sunflower seeds, portobello mushrooms, and miso sesame ginger dressing).
The changes go into effect today, the same day the chain rolls out its early summer menu, and all traces of the Avocobbo and the Wild Child have already been scrubbed from Sweetgreen’s website.
We’re so sorry you didn’t get to say goodbye.
