FBI: Human Remains in Providence Belong to Boston Nightclub Owner

The FBI confirmed that human remains found buried behind a Providence mill belong to Boston nightclub owner Steven DiSarro, who went missing in 1993.

DiSarro, of Westwood, ran The Channel in South Boston and had ties to the mob. The DEA said in 2004 that Whitey Bulger associate Francis “Cadillac Frank” Salem and his son had a “hidden interest” in the nightclub, and that Salemme allegedly helped bury DiSaro’s body.

“For 23 years, the family of Mr. DiSarro has been awaiting news of his whereabouts. The thoughts and prayers of everyone in the FBI are with them during this difficult time. Our investigation will continue to pursue those responsible for Mr. DiSarro’s death in an effort to bring them to justice,” Harold H. Shaw of the FBI’s Boston office said in the statement.

Though no one has ever been charged in DiSarro’s death, Salemme, pictured above, was indicted in 2004 for making false statements regarding his knowledge of DiSarro’s death. Mobster Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi reportedly told authorities in 2003 that he witnessed Salemme’s son strangle DiSarro in May 1993.

DiSarro’s remains were found on March 31. His wife said: “We look forward to the conclusion of the FBI’s investigation so we can learn as much as possible about what really happened to Steven and finally get some closure for our family.”
