Elizabeth Warren Makes Shortlist in Hillary Clinton’s VP Search

Elizabeth Warren may be one step closer to being Hillary Clinton’s running mate.

According to the Associated Press, the Massachusetts lawmaker has made it onto the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee’s shortlist along with several other names, including Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro.

Talk of Warren becoming Clinton’s pick for vice president has intensified in recent weeks after the pair held a meeting in Washington D.C. earlier this month. Their face-to-face discussion came shortly after Warren announced that she would be endorsing the former Secretary of State for president.

Warren has also been relentless with her attacks against presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, which could put her in prime position to join the ticket this election cycle.

Going with a more progressive choice like Warren could also help Clinton win over some voters from her Democratic primary rival Bernie Sanders. The AP reports that the Vermont senator did not making it onto the shortlist of vice presidential candidates.

Should Clinton choose the Massachusetts senator, it would be an historic move, creating an all-female president and vice president pair for the first time in history for a major party. If this scenario happens, Gov. Charlie Baker would have to appoint someone to temporarily fill Warren’s seat before a special election can be held to find a permanent replacement.
