SoulCycle Is Opening Another Boston-Area Studio

SoulCycle is taking over Boston.

Just months after the indoor cycling giant confirmed it’s opening a Seaport location in 2017, CEO Melanie Whelan says the brand is also headed to Dedham’s Legacy Place next year. “We opened our first studio here in 2014, in Chestnut Hill, then we opened in Back Bay in 2015, then we opened in Beacon Hill in 2016,” Whelan says. “We’re really excited about this market. The response has been really phenomenal in all three studios.”

Dedham residents can thank the Chestnut Hill studio for the forthcoming location, Whelan says.

“Chestnut Hill has been a runaway success, in terms of both the economics and the financial performance of the studio, but also the community,” she says. “It’s one of the first suburban, non-New York locations that we opened, and the success of that studio has really set the benchmark for how we think about growth of the business going forward.”

Whelan, who was in town Wednesday for a networking event at the Liberty Hotel, says the chain will continue to open between 10 and 15 studios every year, bringing the grand total to 70 by the end of 2016.

And clip in, cycling fans—the Boston expansion isn’t limited to Dedham and the Seaport. Whelan hints that the brand may be scouting other Commonwealth locations.

“We will continue to expand here as long as the market wants us, and right now we can’t satisfy demand,” Whelan says. “We are really, genuinely excited about the market.”
