Jamaica Plain Porchfest
More than 100 musicians will be jamming, harmonizing, and waltzing from the porches of Jamaica Plain homes on Saturday, letting sweet live music echo through the neighborhood. The performers include names big and small, with genres ranging from roots rock to reggae hip-hop. The “stages” are comprised mainly of private residences, but among them are JP eateries Tres Gatos and the Brewery.

ALL TANGLED UP
Tanglewood in the City
Experience the enchantment of Tanglewood without stepping foot outside the city this weekend. Watch the orchestra’s rendition of Carl Orff’s Carmina burana live from the Berkshires on the big screen in Symphony Hall. Conductor Jacques Lacombe will open the event by leading the orchestra in Claude Debussy’s symphonic poem, Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, and Maurice Ravel’s Daphnis and Chloe, Suite No. 2. At the free event, attendees can choose from lawn style or table seating. Reserve a ticket to the show online.

LET’S GO FLY A KITE
Kite Festival and Country Carnival at Lawn on D
With free events happening nearly every weekend, the Kite Festival and Country Carnival are a strong Saturday lineup for Lawn on D. The first half of the day will include a kid-friendly kite building workshop, kite flying, racing, and demos—plus a bonus: every participant gets a free kite. The Country Carnival that evening will emulate a classic state fair. Think: an old-school photo booth, twisted mirror funhouse, and country line dancing.

IN HONOR
Blackbeard’s Motorcycle Race
The sixth annual ride honors SSG Matthew A. Pucino, who was killed in combat in Afghanistan when an IED struck his vehicle in 2009. The Massachusetts native grew up in Bourne and Plymouth, the start and end points of the ride. Registration for the ride will commence at 9 a.m., and the ride starts at 11 a.m. The ride ends at 12 p.m. with a barbecue, entertainment, and raffle where those without a bike can join at the Plymouth VFW. Proceeds from the event will go toward the SSG Matthew A. Pucino Memorial Foundation, Ltd. Tickets are available at eventbrite.com.

The Wailing at Brattle Theatre
This Korean thriller-horror flick debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Now, you can watch it right at Brattle Theatre in Cambridge. With a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it was received as a film critic favorite. Maggie Lee of Variety writes, “Weighed down by a bloody history of Japanese colonialism, civil war and partition, the scars of the Korean psyche find their way into Na’s film, whether it’s the horror of people being murdered by their own families or the exorcism that serves as its dramatic centerpiece—a likely metaphor for the need to purge ghosts of the past.”
