Portsmouth Abbey School
Portsmouth Abbey School is a coeducational, Catholic, Benedictine boarding and day school for students in grades 9 through 12. Founded in 1926, the school is located on a stunning 500-acre campus along Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay, seven miles from Newport. A rigorous, classical liberal arts education, along with numerous enrichment and community service opportunities, provides a broad foundation for a lifetime of learning. In addition to core subjects, the school offers 17 AP courses, honors sections, and electives. Its 360 students join a close-knit community with dedicated faculty and monks.
Abbey athletics teams compete in 26 varsity sports, and many athletes continue to play in college. Facilities include a world-class, Scottish links-style golf course, multi-sport turf field, two gymnasiums, a squash/fitness center, an equestrian center, a track, a tennis court, playing fields, and a hockey rink. Many students participate in award-winning performing and visual arts programs. A wide range of clubs and travel-abroad programs are also available to students.
