Ben Affleck Watched the Red Sox Lose on The Accountant Red Carpet
Ben Affleck just can’t catch a break.
The actor and diehard Boston sports fan already had his heartbroken once during the press tour for his new film The Accountant when the Patriots lost to Rex Ryan and the Bills. This time around, Affleck was forced to deal with his beloved Red Sox getting knocked out of the American League playoffs by the Indians.
While walking the red carpet for The Accountant premiere in Hollywood on Monday night, the star stopped everything to watch the final moments of the game on a reporter’s phone. According to USA Today, Affleck said he was “having a heart attack” as the Red Sox tried to stave off elimination.
“I saw the last play. It was very heartbreaking, so close,” Affleck later told USA Today. “It was too bad. It just didn’t happen.”

Affleck added that, although the loss didn’t sit well with him, it didn’t hurt as much as when the team would lose during their World Series drought. The actor also admitted that he’s now going to cheer for a certain National League club that hopes to break a curse of its own.
“Now I can root for the Cubs,” Affleck said.
