Five Flower Arranging Classes to Try This Fall

Homemade floral arrangements seem easy enough to make—that is, until a few floppy blooms cause one side to droop, wrecking the harmonious balance you worked so hard to create.

There are more than a few tips and tricks involved in creating Instagram-worthy bouquets and arrangements, and the best way to tame nature’s petal-filled bounty is with good old-fashioned hands-on practice. Plus, with the holidays around the corner, it’s an especially convenient time to finally nail your first custom centerpiece.

Check out these five local flower arranging workshops to create happy, healthy, and pretty tabletop bouquets of your own.

Blooms of Autumn, Greentail Table

Belmont floral boutique Blooms of Hope is taking a trip to Greentail Table in Newton for another highly demanded flower arranging class. Blooms of Hope owner Nicole Pirani will guide students through each step of the floral design process, providing flowers, containers, tools, and other autumnal accessories for getting creative. Classes are 30 minutes long, and workshop fees include all of the supplies needed for making an arrangement and taking it home. Light refreshments will be served.

Woodland and Botanical Couture Workshop, Derby Farm Flowers & Gardens

This two-day workshop is meant to help you to think about plants in new ways. By using foliage, berries, bark, seedpods, twigs, mushrooms, herbs, and flowers, Oregon-based floral designer Francoise Weeks will teach the ins and outs of woodland bouquets and centerpieces. The second day of class will focus on headpieces (think: floral crowns) and floral jewelry. The ticket price includes all materials, professional photography, and daily lunches.

Fall Extravaganza at the Revere Hotel Boston Common, Alice’s Table

With a glass of wine and seasonal small bites placed within reach, this holiday flower arranging class makes for a relaxing evening spent downtown. Flowers, vases, aprons, and tools are provided—simply bring equal parts style and originality.

Dried Flower Wreath Making Workshop, ifarm

At a restored 19th-century farmstead known as ifarm, sustainability is key. This dried flower wreath-making workshop upholds that value, as the organic dried flowers supplied are hand-grown and harvested in ifarm’s permaculture garden. In addition to all of the necessary materials, hot drinks and refreshments will be provided.

Thanksgiving Blooms, Castle Manor Inn

Head north to Gloucester this fall and take a floral arrangement class in a Victorian inn. The Thanksgiving Blooms event by Alice’s Table promises a Friday night filled with flowers and cocktails. This class teaches the art of crafting Thanksgiving arrangements. Plus, you can bring your creation home, vase and all, to enjoy it before applying your knowledge to this year’s centerpiece.
