Covet: A Silk-and-Wool Rug from Mohr & McPherson
Old-school Brahmin style, meet your modern match: This transitional rug from Mohr & McPherson’s Oracle collection effortlessly blends the antique and the avant-garde. Meticulously crafted in Jaipur, India, the piece is based on an ancient Tabriz design, with a twist: In lieu of traditional vibrant colors, artisans handknotted jet-black silk and cream-colored wool, leaving blocks of unfilled pattern surrounding the medallion design for an intentionally distressed look.
“It’s a very bold rug, and that’s kind of what we like to do,” says Callum McPherson, the South End furniture showroom’s rug manager. Pair the carpet with a velvety red armchair in a grand parlor for a contemporary touch, or lay it in a midcentury-modern living room to soften the angles and add a showstopping textural element.
