You Can Take Yoga in a Dorchester Bakery
Boston yogis are spoiled by choice, and not just because of our abundance of local studios. Around here, you can do yoga in a brewery, a nightclub, a museum, a library, or just about any other space your heart desires—including, as of late, a bakery.
For the past couple months, Dorchester’s Homestead Bakery & Café—which just opened this past spring—has offered weekly yoga classes. Classes take place on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., after the bakery has closed, and are offered to everybody, regardless of body, budget, or experience. (There’s a suggested $10 donation, but nobody will be turned away.)
Dorchester local Jen Schreiner teaches the hour-long classes, and keeps them gentle enough to be accessible to all community members.
One of Homestead’s owners, Elisa Girard, says to expect more healthy programming in the future, too. The café has already held a Latin dance session, and hopes to host swing dance nights eventually. What better way to burn off those scones?
Yoga classes are held Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Homestead Bakery & Café, 1448 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester, dorchesterhomestead.com.
