What to Eat (and Drink) This Weekend
Irish Stouts, Red Ales, Whiskey, Etc.
A Happy St. Patrick’s Day weekend to you, Boston! Check out these must-drink Irish whiskey cocktails at bars around the city. Not up for the liquid gold? Of course, you’ll find Guinness and O’Hara’s most places. But many local breweries, like Lamplighter (pictured) and Cold Hollow Brewing, are also producing their own Irish-style dry stouts this weekend. If an Irish red ale is more your pint of beer, maybe you’d like to take a trip to Beverly for Gentile Brewing, or New Bedford’s new brewery, Moby Dick, to give theirs a try. For an Irish strong ale, try Barrel House Z’s Townie, now on draft at Dorchester Brewing Co., too.

Persian New Year Traditions
It’s almost spring, which means it’s almost time for Nowruz, the 13-day Persian New Year, a festival of the season. After Romeo’s at Juliet Sunday Supper, chef Josh Lewin and partner Katrina Jazayeri roll out their Persian New Year menu March 23-April 1, with treats like ash e-reshteh, an herb and watercress soup with black and white noodles and puffed rice; and zereshk polo, a saffron orange panna cotta with barberry and rice brittle. The Persian restaurant Lala Rokh sets the New Year table for the first time tonight, with specials running through March 25.

At One of Boston’s James Beard Award-Nominated Restaurants
Try your luck getting a reservation or a walk-in seat to taste why the James Beard Foundation spotlighted chef Karen Akunowicz of Myers + Chang, Cassie Piuma of Sarma, Susan Regis of Shepard, Maura Kilpatrick of Oleana, and Ken Oringer of Toro, Coppa, Uni, and Little Donkey.

Little Owl Tavern
Boston Nightlife Ventures, the restaurant group that runs the culinary incubator-cum-cocktail bar Wink & Nod, is currently there testing out one of its nascent concepts, Little Owl Tavern. This is the final weekend to try chef Bill Brodsky’s coastal Italian cuisine before Kaki Lima takes over the kitchen on March 20.

Burgers & Boilermakers
Of course, the Barbara Lynch Gruppo’s Drink is best known for its cocktails—but they make a solid double flat patty, too. The annual beer-and-a-shot celebration of the burger is White House themed this year—though executive sous chef Ashley Gaboriault certainly won’t default to well-done, with ketchup. Think pairings inspired by a president, his VP, and first lady, like a Maui Coconut Porter (Barack Obama), a shot of Rittenhouse Rye (Joe Biden), and the classic Drink burger (the lovely and classic Michelle). No reservations, certainly a line.
