The Lawn on D is ringing in their new season with a weekend-long Cinco de Mayo celebration. Rock out to the tunes of latin quartet Tropicante while sipping on margaritas and challenging a friend to some lawn games, or indulge your taste buds in food samples while relaxing on the grass. And really, did you even go to the Lawn on D if you didn’t snag an Instagram on those circle swings?

Repo Man

Revel in the ’80s camp of this sci-fi comedy starring Brat Packer Emilio Estevez. The film follows the journey of Otto, a young punk rocker who begins working with a repossession agent and soon learns to love the fast-paced, high-rolling lifestyle, until things take a turn for the otherworldly. Repo Man is this month’s installment in the MFA film series “On the Fringe,” which features American cult classics from the 1980s.

The Who & The What

From the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Disgraced, last year’s hit drama about an explosive dinner party, comes The Who & The What, a comedic look at relationships, religion, and contradiction. In this play, Ayad Akhtar again explores the dynamic of a Muslim family, this time through a young novelist as she grapples with the balance between modernity and tradition. It closes this weekend, so this is your last chance to see it.

Somerville Open Studios

For the 19th year, Somerville artists will again open their doors to the public for a weekend of open studio visits. Over 340 artists, stretching from Prospect Hill to the Tufts campus, will host visitors at their studios, many of which are inside their actual homes. Visit jewelry-makers, painters, sculptors, and many more. The weekend’s events will also include the Somerville Outdoor Film Fest, a 90-minute selection of locally produced shorts. In celebration of Somerville’s 175th birthday, the theme is “Somerville old and new,” mixing recently shot footage with vintage clips.

Pond will hit the Sinclair on the heels of the May 5 release of their new album, The Weather. Hailing from Australia, the psychedelic rock group was formed in 2008 by members of the genre-adjacent Tame Impala. If you’re sure you’ve heard them before, you might have seen them open for the Arctic Monkeys on their 2014 tour.
