Travel Splurge: A Voyage on a Yacht Hotel

The Troca One will be docking in marinas throughout New England all summer long.

Ever fantasize about living it up on an ultra-luxe yacht? Well, your Jordan Belfort-style dream can come true, thanks to the pop-up luxury yacht hotel, Troca One, that opened this June in Boston. The Troca One is an Italian-made 108-foot Viking Sports Cruiser that’ll be coming in and out of the Charlestown Marina in Boston Harbor throughout the summer.

The yacht has popped up in other New England boating hot spots and will continue to do so in locations like Nantucket and coastal Maine. Guests can stay up to date on the Troca One’s whereabouts by following Troca Hotel’s social media and mailing lists.

Since it’s a pop-up experience, the Troca One won’t be cruising around New England with passengers in tow. Instead, guests will lounge on the boat while it’s docked during their stay. This concept, while simple, is fairly original for the yacht industry.

“A lot of our guests ask for these kind of experiences. Sometimes they say, ‘I need a private jet,’ sometimes they say, ‘I need a yacht,’” explains James Foster, senior vice president of Troca Hotels. “Instead of just referring people to yachts, we could provide them our own yacht that’s a part of the Troca experience.”

Rates start at $849 plus tax for a night in the VIP Stateroom, which is stocked with a king-sized bed, flat-screen TV, walk-in closet, and a wine chiller. For $100 more, guests can stay in the Master Stateroom, which boasts the added perk of a jacuzzi. The hotel indulges guests with champagne upon arrival and continental breakfast in the morning. On request, the Troca staff will book a three-course meal with the executive chef of NoLo Bistro & Bar, Mark Filteau, for $180 a person.

For the true high rollers out there, the whole yacht can be rented out for up to eight people for $4,000, with a sunset cruise around the harbor going for about $9,000.

While the Troca One yacht is Troca Hotel’s latest venture, the company also runs two other boutique hotels—The Daniel in Brunswick, Maine and The Stonehedge Hotel & Spa in Tyngsboro. Foster describes the Troca One as an extension of the Troca Hotels brand.

“It’s what we’re all about. It’s democratizing luxury,” Foster says. “It’s giving people opportunity to have a luxury experience that usually has a very high bar of entry. People can have a little peek behind the curtain of the super yacht experience.”

The Troca One will remain in New England until October, when it’ll set sail for sunny Miami during our colder months, so book a room while you can.
