This Back Bay Home Just Became the Most Expensive Sale of the Year
Earlier this year, we dubbed the exquisite residence at 25 Commonwealth Avenue the quintessential Comm. Ave. mansion. Now, the place has earned a second title: Boston’s most expensive home sale of 2017.
The iconic single-family home brought in a whopping $17.2 million. It was originally listed by Jeannemarie Conley of Compass for $18.95 million in Janaury. The mansion beats the previous record holder—a Beacon Hill condo that sold for $9,035,000—by $8,165,000.
Built in 1890, the more than 7,000-square-foot grand dame is located on the first block of Commonwealth Avenue (and is on the sunny side, to boot). That means natural light streams in through all of the home’s 32 windows, which offer views of Commonwealth Mall. The house boasts 15-foot ceilings in the living room, a private patio, a library with ornate woodwork, five fireplaces, two laundry rooms, four garage parking spaces, and a private elevator that opens to all four levels.
