Roger Goodell: “I’m Not a Football Expert”

Folks please go easy on Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the NFL, which is a professional football league. You can’t expect the guy, who made $32 million last year for overseeing football players, coaches, rules, and sanctions, to, you know, know about football.
“I’m not a football expert,” Goodell said this week.
He had been asked a question about team-less quarterback Colin Kaepernick, amid swirling speculation about whether his unemployment is justified. According to CBS, a reporter asked Goodell whether he thought Kaepernick, formerly of the 49ers, should be on a team given his abilities.
“I’m not a football expert,” Goodell said. “I’m a huge fan. I have a role as commissioner also, but for me I watch the games and enjoy and I let the football people make those decisions. And the reality is there’s 32 different decisions, and multiple decisions within an organization, so there’s always a dispute. The idea of who can play, who can’t play, who’s best for our system and not best for our system, are decisions that should be made by those 32 teams.”
Goodell, whose non-football expertise during the Deflategate saga led to Tom Brady’s four game suspension and loss of a Patriots draft pick, will be returning to Foxboro tonight to watch the Pats face the Chiefs for the season opener. Fans will, apparently, be ready to greet him.
