Accenture to Add 400 New Technology Jobs in Boston

The consulting firm Accenture is set to add 400 technology jobs to its Boston workforce as the company opens a new “innovation hub” in the Back Bay.
The Boston facility, which is the second of 10 centers opening around the country, will connect clients with modern, digitally-focused business solutions. The firm’s huge new 52,000-square-foot office, located at 888 Boylston St., will house the innovation hub and its growing workforce. With the new hires, that staff is set to increase in size by more than 25 percent. When all is said and done, Accenture aims to hire 15,000 people and invest $1.4 billion in the United States by the end of 2020, making for a pretty significant new footprint.
“We are bringing innovation to the doorsteps of our Boston clients with a new destination where we can collaborate even more closely to deliver tangible, ground-breaking results faster than ever,” Kathleen O’Reilly, a senior managing director at Accenture, said in a press release.
The goal of the innovation hubs is to use new technology, including robotics, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence, to solve clients’ business problems. Unlike Accenture’s hubs in Houston and Washington, D.C., which specialize in specific industries, the Boston outpost will have a broader, multi-industry focus, according to the Boston Globe. In addition to its Boston office, Accenture is already heavily invested in the city’s education community, having partnered with MIT for decades on various research and recruiting projects.
As part of an effort to diversify its workforce, Accenture is also expanding its apprenticeship program to Boston. By the end of this year, the company hopes to add at least 100 new people to the nationwide initiative.

Charlie Baker said in a press release. “We welcome Accenture’s decision to expand their commitments in the Commonwealth and look forward to the highly skilled opportunities they will create for Massachusetts workers.”
