Two Athleisure Pop-Ups Get Permanent Locations
Pop-up no longer, these stores are here to stay.
Legit Activewear is in good wellness company at The Street in Chestnut Hill: It counts David’s Tea, Juice Press, and Barry’s Bootcamp as its neighbors. Legit began its storefront career in Wellesley in 2015 before opening as a pop-up at The Street last fall as part of a rotating series that showcased local businesses. Owner Jennifer Schneiderman felt that the location at The Street, near fitness studios and gyms, was a perfect fit for transitioning Legit Activewear from a pop-up shop to a permanent location. She joins other female-owned businesses BTone and Portobello Road. In addition to a variety of men’s apparel, Legit sells women’s apparel and accessories from Blanc Noir, Private Party, Monreal, PE Nation, and Varley.
Luxe Leisure, meanwhile, began its journey as a brief pop-up in November after several months as an online store. Owners Chris Yang and Christine Crevier opened the store because they felt there was a void in the high-end athleisure market in Boston. Yang is very familiar with luxury retail after gigs with the Tannery, Bloomingdale’s, and other luxury brands. Their typical customer is someone looking for a seamless transition from studio to evening. The new brick and mortar is still in South Boston, less than half a mile from their pop-up location, and they’ve continued their e-commerce business. They carry popular brands like 3×1, ATM, FRAME, and Mackage.
