COURTNEY
You just moved here a couple of years ago? Yes, I moved here from Washington, D.C. about four years ago to go to grad school at Harvard Graduate School of Design.
What do you do now? I’m a Senior Urban Planner at the Boston Planning & Development Agency.
Do you have any style icons? Iris Apfel, she’s so fabulous! More than her particular fashion taste, I aspire to embody her boldness.
How would you describe your personal style? I love bold colors. My closet is mostly stripes and solids so that I can wear bright things without being afraid of clashing. I’ve recently ventured into patterns and graphics. It’s fun. When I do wear black, I’ll also wear bright lipstick or jewelry for a bit of pop.
Are there any places you love to shop in Boston? I don’t do a lot of shopping in Boston. I like to host clothing swaps. It’s both social and economical!
Tell me something else about yourself! I co-chaired the inaugural Black in Design Conference and am on the advisory board. Mark your calendar for the next biennial October 2019! #BlackinDesign. My new pet project, The Stoop, will be a community oriented space designed to foster relationships between social justice-minded native Bostonians and newcomers.
