Maine’s Premier Glamping Destination Is Rolling Out “Camp Carriages” and “Hideaway Huts”
Expect even more whimsical rental options at Kennebunkport's Sandy Pines Campground.

Remember those really pretty glamping tents that opened last year? The ones in Maine dreamed up by interior designers? Well, the folks at Sandy Pines Campground in Kennebunkport are rolling out some new, equally whimsical rental options to complement them. They’re called “camp carriages” and “hideaway huts.”
The alliterative accommodations are pretty much what they sound like. Camp carriages, put simply, are cottages on wheels. Sandy Pines’ 12 stylish carriages, designed by Krista Stokes, will come complete with king-sized beds, mini fridges, and air conditioning. On the outside, the carriages are clad in pastel-colored shingles and windows with shutters, and each one comes with a fire pit and seating area.

The 12 hideaway huts, meanwhile, are a bit less cutesy than the camp carriages. Instead, the huts are sleek wooden A-frame cabins, offering full-size beds, nightstands, and overhead lighting. They also come with fire pits and seating areas.
Other new additions for the year include four more glamping tents, which brings Sandy Pines’ total count to 16 tents. Designed by Louise Hurlbutt, the new tents have breezy names like “Tradewinds,” “Robin’s Nest,” “Elements,” and “Under the Stars.” Like the other tents, these will be outfitted with antiques, light fixtures, four-post beds, and other one-of-a-kind accessories. This summer also promises new weekly programming and themed stays like “Vintage Camping Weekend.”
