Here’s an idea to float by your family: What if everybody pitched in to buy a private island in New Hampshire? If you pooled your money together, you might be able to purchase this $2.19 million house for sale in Lake Winnipesaukee. The one-of-a-kind home hit the market in late July, and is surrounded by water on all sides.

The private island in Meredith, N.H., has a lot going for it. For one, it’s quite private. The largest swath of land nearby is Stonedam Island—it’s made up of 112 acres of conservation land and boasts almost 3 miles of undeveloped shoreline (read: no noisy neighbors). The other island to the west, dubbed Pitchwood, is just far enough away to not be a bother. Oh, and there won’t be speedboats whizzing by on summer afternoons. Welcome Island, as it’s called, is surrounded by shallow, rocky waters that ward off boat traffic.

And yet, even if the 3,434-square-foot house wasn’t on an island, it’d still be pretty impressive.

The main living area is anchored by a gigantic stone fireplace. A sofa is suspended from the soaring ceilings, while curving walls and staircases resemble the waves of the lake. When the stairs won’t cut it, there’s an elevator to whisk you to the higher-level floors. Upstairs, find a master suite with a walk-in closet, plus a huge roof deck and a widow’s walk.

In addition to two private beaches, the 0.18-acre property comes with plenty of room to dock boats, including a double-slip boathouse with a boat lift. As an added convenience, there’s a boat slip on the mainland available, too.
