Nicole Rogers dreams up a playful and inviting workspace in New Hampshire.

For humans, there’s nothing more unnatural than being stuck inside all day. So says Nicole Rogers, who relies on the principles of biophilic design—the art of incorporating nature in manmade environments—to create inviting workspaces. “Anything related to nature will reset you and make you feel better,” says the Conundrum Creative principal. Here, she applies those tenets to a playful office space in New Hampshire.

Rogers teamed up with Bradford Welding on a steel-and-netting “sky hammock,” where staffers at this medical supply company can hold informal meetings or snooze during breaks. Green shag rugs “make you feel like you’re standing on grass,” Rogers says, while strings of bistro lights mimic the night sky. Hanging chairs from Maffam Freeform offer cozy hideaways.

Remnants of the building’s former life as a mill, original hardwood floors and exposed brick walls warm this plant-dotted seating area. A laser-cut-felt curtain from FilzFelt helps partition (and soundproof) the high-ceilinged space from an additional seating area just steps away.

As a designer, Rogers says her goal is to make her clients “healthier and happier.” Case in point: the custom steel swing set she dreamed up for this whimsical meeting area, which also includes a live-edge ash table (fabricated by Scott Kelley of Haverhill-based K Modern Design) and “Real Good” copper chairs from Blu Dot.
