Nine New Micro-Units Have Landed in the South End

Bostonians inspired by Marie Kondo’s clutter-free principles are in luck: More micro-units are about to hit the market in the South End.

A building on East Newton Street, called 346 On the Square, will consist of nine condos averaging 450 square feet.

Tiny houses and micro-units have been heralded as the solution to Boston’s housing crisis, but these ones don’t come cheap. The luxurious little homes start at $489,000, or just over $1,000 per square foot. The building’s kitchens feature stainless steel appliances, deep basin sinks, and quartz countertops. Bathrooms come complete with herringbone tile floors and subway tile in the showers, while the rest of the home has refinished hardwood floors. Those still getting used to living small can stash extra stuff in a basement storage area, too.

Despite being pricey, the nine micro-units carved out of the 1890 building add density to the South End, while still maintaining the character of the neighborhood.

“It’s exciting to have worked preserving the heritage and architectural integrity of these units while completing the units with modern updates,” said Charlie Ring, a Coldwell Banker agent representing the building, in a statement.

Three cheers for century-old micro-units.
