Get Your Hands on These Limited Edition New Balance Shoes
They're out of this world funky—in a good way.

It seems if you can dream it, a local-shoe company can achieve it. And we’re not just talking your average sneaker. We’re talking running shoes, complete with sprinkles and plastered with the unmistakable Dunkin’ Donuts orange. Kicks made to look like the Charles River. And even ones that look identical to your favorite breakfast food—avocado toast. Now, New Balance just came out with a limited edition sneaker that looks like something straight out of Space Jam.
The new shoe was the 2019 winning design of the company’s Test Run Program, only in its second year of existence, which challenges the product creation process while getting shoes into customer’s hands faster. This shoe took just seven months to complete—from the inception of the design to stocking shelves—and was created by Adara Dillabaugh, a 23-year-old Design Foundry Apprentice at New Balance. She says she was inspired by the soft, yet supportive, Fresh Foam More running shoe that will launch in April.
“I was originally wearing the Fresh Foam More to run in, however they quickly became a part of my everyday wardrobe,” Dillabaugh said in a press release. “When I had a chance to design a lifestyle upper for this model I wanted to emphasize the retro space motif as it’s a trend I really gravitate towards.”
And the shoe certainly has a retro feel to it. She drew additional inspiration from the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, commercial space flight, and a revival of SciFi films—giving the shoe a space-age feel. The men’s and women’s shoes look slightly different. Both have a chunky white midsole and a neon emerald color throughout, but whereas the women’s shoe is largely white the men’s shoe is darker and has additional colors on the tongue—primarily blue, orange, and a darker shade of pink. Both are available for $179.99 online and at Bodega and Heartbreak Hill Run Co. Michael Jordan basketball moves are not included.
