Monday morning michelada, anyone? The spicy, savory cerveza is on the menu at Pepita Coffee, now open inside Lamplighter Brewing Co. in Cambridge. Along with a michelada (a Lamplighter beer cocktail with lime juice, spices, and a splash of tomato juice), Pepita Coffee debuts a new menu of breakfast tacos and house-made baked goods, and it’s taking over daytime service from the recently closed Longfellows Coffee. Check out the full, opening menu below.

Pepita is the latest from Lamplighter cofounder Cayla Marvil, and a team that includes former Longfellows chef Andrea Amador and Joe Galgani, a Lamplighter bartender and cook at Darwin’s. Longfellows creator Alisha Fowler is moving away from Cambridge later this summer, which provided an opportunity for Marvil—a culinary school grad and former café chef and manager—to reimagine the daytime concept at the taproom.

“When I want breakfast, I want a breakfast taco,” Marvil says. So the handhelds—flour tortillas filled with the likes of refried beans and bacon; and chorizo, potato, and egg—anchor the menu. Meats come from Walden Local Meat Co. There is also an avocado tostada with pickled onions, cotija, aleppo pepper, and pepitas; and a selection of sweets, including pumpkin-chocolate chip bread, raspberry currant scones, and Vietnamese coffee popsicles.

Pepita continues to use Barrington Coffee Roasters, as Longfellows did. It also serves Mem teas (hot and iced), a sparkling limeade, nitro cold brew, and IndieFerm kombucha. Among new signature drinks, there is a spicy hot chocolate as well as an iced version, the aforementioned michelada (available daily after 11 a.m.), and a “coquito slushie,” with cinnamon, espresso, and coconut.

The new café is operating soft-opening-style from Monday through Thursday this week, with a grand opening slated for next weekend. Pepita Coffee opens daily at 7 a.m. (8 a.m. on the weekends), and breakfast tacos and coffee drinks are available until 3 p.m. Lamplighter beer starts flowing daily at 11 a.m.
