With two through to Vegas before lunch and another right after, the first day of Boston auditions of So You Think You Can Dance had wannabe-contestants stepping up their game.

“The talent has always been passionate,” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said. “For me, Boston is an arts city that enjoys its art.”

Guest judge Adam Shankman admitted that dancers walk into auditions at a pretty high disadvantage; not only are they competing against each other, but they’re competing with last season and all the ones before it. Lythgoe agreed: “I’m always asked ‘Is this season different? Is this season as good as the last one?’ and it’s very difficult to say, ‘no, it’s not as good as last season.’ We want to be able to say, ‘Yes it’s better.’”

Check out season 10 of So You Think You Can Dance, which premieres in May, to see if any Boston dancers made the cut.
