Twelve DIY Spa Treatments to Treat Yourself During Quarantine
Freshen up your hair, skin, and nails with ingredients you already have at home.
With nearly two months of staying at home under our belts, it’s fair to assume that many of us are missing our usual grooming routines. Whether it’s a haircut, manicure, or facial—we’re all trying our best to replicate these self-care practices at home. Here are 12 at-home spa treatments that can hold you over until you’re able to see your favorite esthetician or manicurist again. From hair masks to cuticle treatments to facials, these DIY spa treatments will have you feeling flawless in no time.
Hair
This scalp scrub helps remove product build-up, oil, and dead skin cells on your scalp. It’s made with only five ingredients: coconut oil, sugar, apple cider vinegar, honey, and rosemary essential oil. Rosemary essential oil helps to stimulate the hair follicles for growth and clear clogged pores.
Make your hair soft and silky while taming frizz with this at-home hair mask. But the instructions differ depending on hair health: For dry hair, use only the egg yolk; for oily hair, use only the egg whites; and if you have normal hair, use the entire egg.
All-Natural Hair Lightening Spray
If you’re ready for summer and feel like lightening your hair without harsh chemicals or dye, this spray can do the trick. Chamomile tea is used to help bring out lighter tones in your hair, while lemon acts as a natural accelerant to the sun’s lightening abilities.
Face
This all-natural face cleanser is made with jojoba oil, Castile soap, raw honey, tea tree oil, vitamin E, and lemon. Vitamin E helps moisturize the skin and minimize scars, while tea tree oil has antiseptic properties.
Moisturizing Overnight Face Mask
Squalane oil is a main ingredient in this mask and is a good choice for acne-prone skin. Beeswax and Vitamin E are also added to the mask for intense hydration.
Brightening Turmeric and Lemon Face Mask
Manuka honey helps moisturize your skin and fight skin infections, while turmeric reduces redness and brightens and tones the skin. You may need to wash your face a couple of times after using to reduce the yellow tint.
Nails
This homemade nail soak contains lemon to help whiten discolored nails, lavender to treat skin conditions, and rosemary to strengthen nails. All of these ingredients are mixed with hot water, olive oil, and vitamin E.
Moisturize your cuticles with this cream made from jojoba oil, shea butter, lanolin, and lemon. Lanolin is extracted from sheep’s wool grease and is very moisturizing, but if you’re allergic to wool, you can substitute vaseline.
Follow these steps to give yourself a salon-worthy manicure at home. You’ll need the right tools, such as nail clippers, cuticle trimmers, nail files, and a buffer.
Skin
Milk and honey help moisturize and soothe the skin. Round silicone molds are used to shape the bath bombs, but you can use whatever shape you prefer.
Instead of store-bought soap that may be full of chemicals, try making your own soap at home. All you need is shea butter and lavender essential oil. If you have them, dried lavender flowers add a nice exfoliating effect to the soap.
Green Tea and Peppermint Bath Soak
Epsom salts and peppermint oil can help reduce muscle pain and soreness, while the green tea provides an energizing boost. Once you create the salt mix, let it sit, covered with a towel, for at least an hour so that it can absorb the oils properly.
