As you pull up to the front of this Natick single-family, the midcentury modern design shines. The flat roof and slate gray exterior melt into the tree-filled scenery and a glass front door beckons you into the home. It’s so successfully low-profile that, the owners say, guests often can’t believe what they see when they step inside. Expansive panes of glass open the interior walls up to grant wide-angled views of Lake Cochituate, which the mod home sits right next to.

It’s not by accident that the blue and green outlooks catch your eye as soon as you enter the residence. The current owners have thoughtfully renovated the interior to preserve the 1950 bones of the home, but enhance them with a series of contemporary updates. Linoleum floors were ripped up and replaced with five-inch planks of engineered wood, while the once-carpeted bathrooms now feature white tiling. The wood-burning fireplace, which stretches up to reach the beamed and vaulted ceiling in the living room and previously had an antiqued finish, is now clad in minimalist Porcelanosa tiles. As for the kitchen, walls of wallpaper were stripped down and repainted to let the home’s natural light shine, and the owners outfitted the space with new counters, a tile backsplash, and all-stainless appliances.

The resulting bright, white space, filled with gray and wooden accents, feels fresh and lets the scenery play out beautifully across the seasons. In addition to the many windows, the main bedrooms open onto an elevated deck, while the living spaces connect directly to a bluestone and brick patio. The tiered terrace boasts multiple levels for entertaining and looks down the hill at the lakeshore. If it’s getting a little too brisk to spend all evening outside, you can always head into the screened-in porch, where you can stay away from the windchill without saying goodbye to that fresh air or those reflective vistas.
