PUP PLAYGROUNDS

See Spot run (off leash) at these area parks.

Zero New Washington Street Dog Park

Don’t be deterred by the somewhat-dodgy industrial-park setting—this long, 20,000-plus-square-foot space has agility-training features, two water fountains (plus a spigot for washing dirty paws), a covered pavilion, and LED lights for after-dark play.

Thorndike Field Dog Park

There are some fun obstacles (stone steps, boulders) and a water fountain at this year-old pet paradise just off the Minuteman Bikeway, but the main attraction is the giant tree surrounded by wooden benches.

Margaret Street, Arlington.

Sheepfold Meadow

This grassy expanse inside the 2,575-acre Middlesex Fells Reservation is the see-and-be-seen spot for local dogs. (It isn’t fenced in, however, so pups should be under voice control.) After a good romp, hit the more than 100 miles of trails winding through Malden, Medford, Stoneham, Melrose, and Winchester for an on-leash cooldown.
