WATCH: David O. Russell’s Boston-based Film American Hustle Has a Trailer
Well that was fast. Just a few months ago, we reported that Hollywood A-listers Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, and more were in Boston shooting a high-profile motion picture. Now the first trailer for the movie has been released.
American Hustle is about a financial con-man (Bale) who was caught by an out-of-control federal agent (Cooper). The movie is set to be released in theaters this December.
The trailer makes the movie look highly amped and thrilling, although it doesn’t give away any great plot details. These characters aren’t exactly do-gooders. They get into all sorts of trouble, set to the soundtrack of Led Zepplin’s “Good Times, Bad Times.” We see partying, drugs, robbery, arrests, and Christian Bale spanking Jennifer Lawrence on the behind on top of a desk. Oh, those badass ’70s.
We also know that the majority of the movie was shot in the Boston area, although the cuts are too short in the trailer to recognize any significant settings.
Audiences can expect “a wild world of amazing characters,” director David O. Russell told Good Morning America on Wednesday. “People with their passions and their hearts that was inspired by this wild event that happened back then.”
The cast was spotted in town back in April sporting retro hairstyles, neck braces, and swanky suits on set. The cast was later photographed in Worcester, Swampscott, and Woburn for shooting as well.
Robert De Niro reportedly jumped onto the project late to play “a fixer of sorts.” Cooper, Lawrence, and De Niro also starred together in Russell’s award-winning film Silver Linings Playbook, for which Lawrence won the Best Actress Oscar this year.
