Emerson College Students Honored by MTVu for ‘Boston Strong’ Marathon T-Shirt Campaign
MTVu—the alternative MTV network targeted toward the college and university communities—has announced that starting this Sunday, August 18, and throughout the week until the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, August 25, they will show special segments of their program called Random Acts. Random Acts surprises hardworking, civil-minded, and all-around talented college students with messages and appearances from celebrities for being great do-gooders.
This Sunday, the surprise is in Boston where three Emerson College students—Nick Reynolds, Chris Dobens, and Lane Brenner—took immediate action following the Boston Marathon bombings in April by creating the “Boston Strong” T-shirt campaign. Together, they printed thousands of shirts with hopes of selling a couple hundred. The team ended up selling 57,000 Boston Strong T-shirts, raising almost $1 million for The One Fund Boston. Earlier this summer, the three organized a giant photoshoot for the T-shirts in Copley Square.

In the video, artists such as Robin Thicke, Ed Sheeran, Fall Out Boy, Jason Derulo, and more created a special video to celebrate Reynolds, Dobens, and Brenner’s hard work and the “Boston Strong” message. Also featured is Quinn Marcus, a recent Emerson alumna and star of MTVu’s Quinnterviews, premiering in September.
“At mtvU, it’s our mission to celebrate talented college students across the country and honor their work on a national platform. We couldn’t think of three more worthy and inspiring students to honor than Nick, Chris, and Lane for their Boston Strong T-shirt campaign,” said Carlo DiMarco, senior VP of strategic partnerships and development for mtvU.
The trio was also rewarded with tickets to the MTV Video Music Awards next week.
Make sure to keep an eye out for the “Boston Strong” team on MTVu’s Random Acts this Sunday, August 18.
