Neptune Oyster, Erbaluce, and Toro Get Mentions in Chasing Life
ABC Family’s new original series Chasing Life has only aired a few episodes thus far, and while the main plotline of April Carver’s battle with cancer is very serious, sincere, and sad, the show also provides a vibrant angle about living life to the fullest, some of which comes across when the characters engage in fun activities around Boston.
Examples thus far include farmers markets and outdoor movies. Less exciting examples include April falling asleep on the T and ending up in Braintree. Why she boarded a southbound Red Line train from Park Street in an effort to get to Beacon Hill is a mystery.

Other notable spots in the show include the fictional Boston Post, with some scenes filmed at the Boston Globe; Diesel Cafe in Somerville; and plenty of the North End and Boston Common.
In episode 6, which aired Tuesday, April’s new boyfriend, Dominic, takes her on a surprise date: a food crawl around the city including stops at three 2013 Best of Boston winners. As they approach Neptune Oyster, Dominic recites:
Amazing right? It’s a food crawl! A lot of the restaurants from the Best of Boston list are participating—homemade pappardelle from Erbaluce, roasted bone marrow from Toro, oysters from Neptune.
Well hey, thanks for quoting us, Chasing Life. We’re sure the restaurants appreciate the mention as well.
That’s where the fun comes to an abrupt halt. Having AML—acute myeloid leukemia—causes April to vomit all the food up later. She had yet to tell her well-intentioned boyfriend about her illness, which gets more and more severe with each episode.
For viewers of the show, maybe we can fear not: Though April’s health will likely worsen over time, if her fictional hospital on the show is anything like the real Mass General—which was just ranked the second best hospital in the country—then rest assured that April and her new buddy Leo, who is also battling cancer, are in good hands.
