We’ve been waiting for more ballet in the park.

Last year, the Boston Ballet drew a crowd of tens of thousands to Boston Common for “Night of Stars,” a free performance celebrating the company’s 50th anniversary.

This week, the team will be at Public Garden to re-create a 1970s photo (above) in which dancers from the company posed in Swan Lake costumes on—what else?—the swan boats.

The event this Thursday afternoon, free and open to the public, promotes the Boston Ballet’s forthcoming production of Swan Lake at the Boston Opera House. The show will be the world premiere of artistic director Mikko Nissinen’s interpretation of the classic story about Odette, a princess-turned-swan. Originally composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1875, Nissinen’s take will be brought to life with all-new sets and costumes by designer Robert Perdziola.

The show’s run was extended due to high demand from two to three weeks, and is now planned for October 30 through November 9.

Swan Lake is one of the greatest ballets of all time, set to a score that is celebrated throughout the world,” Nissinen says in a press release. “After a six-year hiatus, I am so excited to bring this exquisite classic back to Boston with a fresh look.”

The Public Garden photo shoot will take place Thursday, August 21, at 3:30 p.m.

Tickets for the Boston Ballet’s production of Swan Lake—which runs from October 30 to November 9—go on sale Monday, August 18. For more info, visit bostonballet.org.
