Matt Damon Poured Toilet Water Over His Head for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Such a do-gooder.

Just when you thought it was almost, nearly, possibly over, Matt Damon swooped in and schooled everyone with the ultimate Ice Bucket Challenge video by bringing awareness to not one, but two causes. Damon, who is the cofounder of the nonprofit organization Water.org, which provides access to clean, sanitary water to places around the globe, collected toilet water from around his house to use for his ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

“This is truly toilet water. I’ve been collecting it from various toilets all over the house,” he says in the video.

He also explains the context: “For those of you—like my wife—who think this is really disgusting, keep in mind that the water in our toilets in the West is actually cleaner than the water that most people in the developing world have access to.”

Damon was challenged last week by his BFF Ben Affleck and late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. Damon nominates his “favorite actor” George Clooney, his “favorite musician” Bono, and “the greatest quarterback of all time” Tom Brady.

Last year, Damon got Bono, Olivia Wilde, and Sir Richard Branson on board to partake in his “toilet strike” for Water.org, promising to hold it in until everyone in the world has access to clean water and sanitation.
