Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and More Peer into Your Soul in ONE.org’s Ebola Video
Talk about no words. Do-gooders Matt Damon and Ben Affleck joined Will Ferrell, Ellie Goulding, Bono, Morgan Freeman, and more for ONE.org’s new advertisement to end Ebola. The video is quite eerie considering it begins with Matt Damon staring intently into your soul for 10 seconds.
But of course, that’s the point of the whole thing. The ad stresses that people and leaders are waiting too long to respond to Ebola. “This is what waiting looks like,” the ad reads, as celebrities stare blankly into the camera. Its final words: “Talk is cheap, it’s time to take action.”
ONE is an international campaigning and advocacy organization. The group has more than 6 million people involved—with more than 1 million Facebook followers. Its goal is to end poverty and disease, specifically in Africa, and the Ebola epidemic is currently one of the organization’s prime commitments.
And no one should be surprised to see that Damon and Affleck are in on the advocacy action. Damon partook in the “toilet strike” last year as cofounder of Water.org, and is currently raising awareness for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. Meanwhile, Affleck is the founder of the Eastern Congo Initiative, and he’s also been trying to save the bats—doesn’t sound cool, but it is. And of course, both Damon and Affleck took part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge over the summer.
