Best of the Day: ‘The Wasteland Ball’ at Ceremony – June 22, 2015
Welcome to Best of the Day, our daily recommendation for what to check out around town. If you do one thing in Boston today, consider this.
“I exist in this wasteland, reduced to one instinct: survive,” Tom Hardy proclaims in Mad Max: Fury Road. This might strike a chord with the Boston goth scene, which has faced some alarming venue closures this year. Most recently, we’re mourning the impending demise of T.T. the Bear’s, which shuffles off this mortal coil in July, thus displacing monthly goth night (and Manray offshoot) Xmortis. And back in February, Boston’s nigh-apocalyptic snow terror spelled doom not only for Boston commutes and flimsy roofs, but also Arc Nightclub—the longtime home of weekly goth night Ceremony.
But there is hope. For starters, Ceremony has indeed survived: It has been carried to the gates of Valhalla Allston, where (we hope) it will ride eternal, shiny and chrome. Tonight, Ceremony gets into the road warrior spirit with “The Wasteland Ball.” Don your finest desert-scrubbed leather gear and your stompiest boots, and prepare for a night of Armageddon-ready industrial bangers with DJs Static and Black/Mail.
