Sudbury native and star-spangled Avenger Chris Evans may have his next big role lined up.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Evans is in talks to join the cast of The Girl on the Train alongside Oscar winner and current Joker Jared Leto. The film is an adaptation of Paula Hawkins’ bestselling novel of the same name, which has been hailed by many critics as being the next great Gone Girl-style thriller.

The Girl on the Train already has a number of Hollywood stars signed on to the project, including Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, and Haley Bennett.

The film will reportedly focus on Blunt’s character, an alcoholic, unemployed woman named Rachel, who spends her days fantasizing about a couple who lives in a house that she passes by every day during her commute on the train. After blacking out from a drinking binge, she wakes up covered in blood and starts to remember details about a crime that she possibly witnessed or committed.

It sounds like a mix of Gone GirlMemento, and Rear View Window all wrapped up into one.

Should Evans sign on, he would play Tom, Rachel’s ex-husband, who is now married to another woman.

Before he takes a crack at starring in a mystery-crime thriller, Evans will reprise his Marvel role on the silver screen in next year’s highly anticipated Captain America: Civil War.

Evans is also set to star in director Marc Webb’s upcoming flick Gifted opposite fellow Massachusetts native Jenny Slate. Looks like it’ll be a busy 2016 for Evans.
